But with so many shiny gems, it is difficult to choose where to spend your holiday. We do have the 3 best ones on a row for you, Bodrum, Antalya and Kusadasi.
Where and what to see in Bodrum on the Aegean Coast?
Bodrum is a seaside resort that is certainly the most beautiful seaside resort in Turkey. It was even one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World because it was here that the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus stood. The foundation of this can still be found. Besides the historical significance of the city, it is also just a very nice seaside resort. It has a beautiful bay and the center has largely retained its authenticity. You walk through narrow streets with white houses and at the harbor, you will find an old castle, which is completely worth a visit. The island used to belong to Greece and remains of it can still be seen, such as on Göktepe hill, where there is a Greek theater that is still in use. A completely different attraction is the port of Bodrum or Yalikavak, and you will no doubt think of Saint Tropez or Monaco, thanks to all the luxury yachts moored here.
Antalya is the largest and one of the most beautiful seaside resorts and has beautiful historical sites and nature. In the historic district of Kaleiçi, there are a lot of cultures to sniff. You stroll through the narrow streets past old Ottoman houses, mosques, and bazaars. The streets can be very steep because the neighborhood is built on a cliff, which provides a beautiful view over the old harbor. You will discover historic sights, such as Hadrian’s white marble Gate with its three triumphal arches, the Hidirlik Tower, and the landmark of the city, the Yivli Minare Mosque. Outside Antalya, you will find green and water-rich natural beauty in the form of the Kurşunlu Waterfall Nature Park full of plants, lakes, and of course waterfalls. A little further afield is the Köprülü Canyon National Park: an impressive nature park full of rugged cliffs and rivers. Ideal for rafting!
Where and what to see in Kusadasi on the Aegean Coast?
The seaside resort of Kusadasi has grown into a true holiday resort, with an extensive coastline overlooking the Greek island of Samos on the other side. The long coast is accompanied by a long and pleasant promenade. There is a large harbor and a modern shopping center; nevertheless, Kusadasi feels very cozy and that makes it a nice and oh-so-beautiful seaside resort. In addition to all the modern shops, there are also authentic tea houses to visit and there are various markets, where fresh fruit is sold. Right off the coast is pigeon island Güvercin Adasi. The island was used as a breeding ground for pigeons in Ottoman times. There is a lighthouse and the remains of a Byzantine fortress to visit.
